FAIRFIELD, CT — An area teen is accused of stealing expensive dirt bikes from online marketplace sellers by using a false name and fake cash, according to Fairfield police.

Twice over the summer, 18-year-old Ashan Jahiem Langston posed as a buyer on Letgo, telling sellers he was interested in purchasing a dirt bike, according to a police report. In both cases, Langston said his name was Shaun Torres and asked the sellers to meet him near Villa Avenue in Fairfield, where each time he handed the seller an envelope — ostensibly filled with cash — before taking the bike on a test drive and never returning, according to police.

The first incident took place June 10, police said, when a young man from suburban New York brought his $3,000 bike to Fairfield and unwittingly exchanged it for an envelope full of tissue paper. In the second instance, which happened July 25, Langston stole a $3,600 bike, giving the seller counterfeit bills and tissue instead of cash, according to the report.

Langston, of the 100 block of Voight Street in Bridgeport, is charged with two counts of third-degree larceny and one count of first-degree forgery, police said. He was arrested Aug. 21 and is set to be arraigned Dec. 1, according to court records. Langston has been released from custody on $10,000 bond, court records said.
