FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield student was recently recognized for helping start a fundraiser that generated thousands of dollars to fight multiple sclerosis.
Sydney Carroll, a fourth-grader at Riverfield Elementary School, was the recipient earlier this month of a proclamation from First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick, who honored Sydney for proposing the school take steps to raise awareness about MS.

MS is a neurological disease that affects the central nervous system and impacts nearly 1 million people in the United States. There is no known cure.
Through Sydney's efforts, Riverfield held an Orange Day for MS during National MS Awareness Week to educate the community and raise money for research and services. Students were invited to wear orange on Friday, and the fundraiser, which took place the week of March 14, yielded $3,740, according to an online tracker. The money will be donated to the National MS Society.
