Update: Police Identify Fatal I-95 Fairfield Accident Victim
The accident victim has been identified and more details about the accident were released.
Police are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of a man on I-95 north in Fairfield Thursday.
A truck from John’s Refuse and Recycling pulled out of the northbound Fairfield rest area after dropping off a dumpster south of exit 23, according to state police.
The truck entered the highway with its rear boom/lift mechanism still raised up, which struck the King’s Highway overpass.

The truck rolled over onto its side and struck a metal beam guardrail, which penetrated the cab of the truck. The guardrail struck the operator and caused fatal injuries.
The operator has been identified as John Collett, 32, of Wallingford.

A vehicle from Hansen’s Flowers and Gifts and a Hyundai Kia were also damaged in the accident. The occupants weren’t injured.
The right lane of the highway and the exit 23 on and off ramp were closed for much of Thursday as police investigated.
