Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust in Fairfield

State Police seized 63 folds of heroin and six bags of cocaine during a traffic stop on I-95 North.

A traffic stop on I-95 North in Fairfield led to a drug bust in which State Police seized 63 folds of heroin and six bags of cocaine on Tuesday.

State Police said on Facebook that Trooper Vernon Sanders of Troop G initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation on I-95 North near exit 21 in Fairfield.

During the course of the stop, Trooper Sanders was able to develop probable cause for a search of the vehicle, according to police.

Police said the search revealed one pill suspected to be ecstasy, one knotted bag of suspected heroin and a small amount of marijuana. Trooper Sanders then searched the operator at which time he located 63 folds of suspected heroin and six bags of cocaine.

Police said the operator will be arrested and charged with various narcotics related charges.

Police also posted the following:

“Troopers are committed to responding proactively, to interdict and seize narcotics and/or the illicit proceeds of narcotics trafficking from criminal organizations. The State of Connecticut has experienced an increase in narcotic trafficking, specifically the illicit narcotic heroin. It is common that narcotics are frequently being transported by commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and buses within the State of Connecticut specifically utilizing the I-95 corridor as a main thoroughfare between New York City and Boston. Troop G Troopers’ efforts reduce the negative quality of life issues such as narcotics use, misuse and distribution as well as violence and gang activity that is associated with it.”
