Upgrades Unveiled At Neighborhood Park In Fairfield

New walking trails were named for a World War II veteran during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the park.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Stratfield Village Association unveiled several upgrades at Lt. Owen Fish Park, located at 1401 Stratfield Road, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony over the weekend. The improvements, which were all privately funded through the SVA, include:

  • A new toddler playground (the old one was removed over a year ago and not replaced)
  • Over $10,000 in renovated and updated bathroom facilities
  • A new trash/dumpster corral
  • A new, almost mile-long walking trail through the woods behind Lt. Owen Fish Park which connects to the park

Additionally, new walking trails were dedicated to long-time Stratfield Village resident and WWII Veteran Ed Crowley who attended with a number of family members. The SVA had worked with the Fairfield American Legion Post143 (which is located in Lt. Owen Fish Park) to select Crowley as the honoree.

Those in attendance were: SVA members and Board of Directors (see attached), including Co-Presidents, Jamie McCusker and Dylan O’Connor, and Project Lead and Board Member Frank Tavolacci, First Selectman Mike Tetreau who read a statement from State Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey who was away visiting family, State Senator Tony Hwang, State Representative Laura Devlin, State Representative Brenda Kupchik, Probate Judge Dan Caruso, Town Clerk Betsy Browne, RTM District 5 members Josh Garskof and Jay Wolk, RTM District 4 members Alice Kelly and Marcy Spolyar, Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Scott Walker, Veterans from the Lt. Owen Fish Memorial Post 143 including Tom Quinn, and the Town’s Building Maintenance Supervisor James Ryan. Many others including neighbors were also present.

The SVA is a new 501 c3 non-profit organization established to preserve and improve the Stratfield Village neighborhood in Fairfield, CT. In addition to the Lt Owen Fish Park improvements, the SVA is working on several other initiatives for the neighborhood including working with the new owners of the former Stratfield Market to revitalize the Four Corners (the intersection of Fairfield Woods Road and Stratfield Road (Route 59).
