Uptick In Package Thefts Expected For Fairfield As Holidays Approach
A package containing a roughly $500 vaccuum was stolen over the weekend in Fairfield, police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A package worth about $500 was stolen from a Fairfield home over the weekend, according to police.
As the holidays draw near, authorities expect to see many more such incidents.
“Package thefts are common in Fairfield, especially around the holidays,” Lt. Eddie Weihe said in an email. “With an increase in online shopping, and deliveries happening during business hours when most residents are not at home, we see an increase in package thefts.”

The package was stolen mid-day Saturday in front of a garage in the 600 block of Catamount Road, according to police, who said the package contained a Dyson cordless vacuum valued at $499.99. The theft was reported Sunday afternoon, according to police.
“There are ways to minimize the potential for this type of crime,” Weihe said in the email.

Residents are encouraged to use technology to track their deliveries and to be home when a package arrives, if possible, or to have a family member or friend secure the package, or arrange for the delivery service not to drop off the package without a signature, if that option is offered.
“‘Ring,’ ‘Nest,’ and other similar systems with audio/video capabilities are also good deterrents,” Weihe said.
