Voting & Absentee Ballot Information For Upcoming CT Primaries In Fairfield: What To Know

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Democratic and Republican primaries in Connecticut are scheduled for Aug. 11, but in Fairfield, not many candidates will appear on the ballots.

Registered Democrats and Republicans in town will each only have one race to decide, for Democrats, selecting a gubernatorial candidate, and for Republicans, choosing a U.S. representative candidate for the 4th Congressional District.

On the primary ballot for Democrats in Fairfield will be the two candidates vying for the party's gubernatorial nomination, incumbent Gov. Ned Lamont and state Rep. Josh Elliot.

The winner will face Republican state Sen. Ryan Fazio in the Nov. 3 election.

As for Fairfield's Republicans, on the ballot for the primary will be two candidates for party's nomination to run for the 4th Congressional District, Michael Ted Goldstein and Daniel Miressi.

The winner will face Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Himes in November.

Only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote in the Connecticut Primary, and same day registration is not available. Registered unaffiliated voters can register for a party in order to vote in the primary up until noon on Aug. 10.

As in all elections in the state, polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.; all of Fairfield's regular polling sites will be open for voting.

Early Voting will be held at the Fairfield University Bookstore, Second Floor, 1499 Post Road.

Hours for Early Voting are as follows:

• Monday, August 3 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Tuesday, August 4, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (extended hours)
• Wednesday, August 5, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Thursday, August 6, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (extended hours)
• Friday, August 7, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Saturday, August 8, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Sunday, August 9, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Absentee ballots for the primary will be available beginning Tuesday, July 21. A reason to obtain an absentee ballot is no longer required in Connecticut.

"Absentee voting is a two-step process," Fairfield First Selectperson Christine Vitale wrote in a recent town update. "An application for a ballot must be signed and filed with the Town Clerk before a ballot can be issued. Applications are available at the Town Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4 PM or through the Connecticut Online Absentee Ballot Request Portal: Connecticut Online Absentee Ballot Request Portal."

The Fairfield Town Clerk's Office is located at 611 Old Post Road in the Old Town Hall building.
