Warde Routed, 31-0, By Revenge-Minded Darien
Blue Wave avenge 14-0 loss to Mustangs in last year's season opener
Last season, the Fairfield Warde football team stunned perennial FCIAC power Darien, 14-0, in Duncan Della Volpe's first game as the Mustangs' coach.
In the rematch Thursday, the Mustangs were ambushed by a Darien team lying in wait for a chance at revenge.
Warde was victimized by two scoring big plays -- Graham Maybell's 70-yard reception and Jarret Gatling's 50-yard interception return - and suffered a 31-0 loss to the Blue Wave in Darien in the season opener for both teams.
