Warde/Ludlowe Basketball Game Held in Honor of Student with Cancer

The 5th annual Coaches Vs. Cancer basketball game will be held in honor of Giacomo Brancato, a student battling Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Fairfield Ludlowe and Warde high schools will compete in the 5th annual Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game Feb.11 in honor of a Warde student who was diagnosed with cancer.

The game will be held at 7:45 p.m. at Warde and will benefit the American Cancer Society.

The game will be played in honor of Giacomo Brancato, a Fairfield Warde student who was diagnosed during last year’s basketball season with Enlarged BCell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Brancato will be back on the court with his teammates for the Coaches vs. Cancer game as his cancer has gone into remission.

“This game is very important. In the past I became involved to honor cancer survivors, but this year I am a survivor and I want to empower others to fight back,” Brancato said.

Brancato is the Youth Honorary Chair of the Society’s Relay For Life of Fairfield set to take place on Saturday, June 11th from 3pm – 12am. This year he will be walking alongside his mother and their team at the annual event.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Since its inception in 1993, the American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer initiative has raised more than $87 million to support the Society’s mission. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
