Woman, 75, Sexually Assaulted At Nursing Home: Fairfield Police

A former patient has been charged with sexually assaulting an incapacitated 75-year-old woman at a nursing home, according to police.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A former patient at a Fairfield nursing home was arrested after a lengthy investigation for sexually assaulting an incapacitated 75-year-old woman in her room, according to police. On Jan. 21, 2018, an employee of Regal Care of Southport reported that a male patient was seen exiting the room of an elderly non-communicative patient’s room, according to Capt. Robert Kalamaras.

Kalamaras said that after further inspection of the patient, the employee found that her adult diaper was open and the employee immediately notified police. An investigation ensued that involved the “examination of scientific evidence, interviews of staff members, interviews of family members, and interviews of the suspect,” according to Kalamaras.

“During the investigation, family members reported multiple previous incidents involving Elias Saldana accessing the victim’s room specifically against the family’s wishes,” Kalamaras wrote in a press release. “Regal Care of Southport assured them that a safety plan was in place to prevent Saldana’s access to the victim. As a result of this investigation, it was determined that Elias Saldana illegally accessed the victim’s room and sexually assaulted her.”
