FAIRFIELD, CT — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Jalna Jaeger, who nominated her sister, Sara Jaeger, of Fairfield.

Reason for recognition: Every day she walks Ash Creek and the adjoining beach and picks up litter. Winter and summer, she is out collecting trash that would be in Long Island Sound. She especially concentrates on fishing line, which harms birds.

One thing to know: Some people do beach cleanups once a year, she does it every day.

Thank you for all you do, Sara!
