Woman Rescued From Water Near Penfield Beach: Fairfield Police
The woman showed signs of potential hypothermia and was taken to a hospital, police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield emergency crews rescued a woman overnight from Long Island Sound near Penfield Beach, according to police.
Law enforcement were notified about 11:40 p.m. Saturday that the woman might attempt suicide, a police report said. Her car was found in the parking lot of Penfield Beach and police pinpointed her approximate location and coordinated a large response to the beach area, according to the report. The department's marine unit assisted with the search, police said.
About 12:30 a.m. Sunday, the woman was found east of the beach partially in the water, according to the report. She showed signs of potential hypothermia and was taken to a hospital, police said.

Fairfield Fire Department Assistant Chief George Gomola said about 10:30 a.m. Sunday that to the best of his knowledge the woman survived, and that her symptoms were not thought to be life threatening.
"The water was really cold and she was in for a relatively short-term exposure," he said.
