MIDDLEBURY/FARMINGTON, CT — A 22-year-old Farmington man was killed early Saturday in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 in Middlebury, according to Connecticut State Police.
Troopers said the collision occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 16, on I-84 East near the South Street bridge between exits 16 and 17.
Police identified the driver who died as James Christopher Hannan of Farmington, who was the driver and lone occupant.
According to the preliminary investigation, Hannan was driving a 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited eastbound in the center lane when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle struck the rear of a 2016 International tractor-trailer also traveling in the center lane.
State police said Hannan suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was transported by Trinity EMS to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. Authorities said the next of kin has been notified.
The tractor-trailer driver, identified as a 63-year-old New Jersey man, was not injured, according to the report.
Police said the crash also damaged about 100 feet of median guardrail owned by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad responded to assist with the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
