2026 Dog Licenses In Farmington, What You Need To Know

Farmington dog owners can renew or obtain dog licenses through the town clerk's office.

FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington dog owners are required to renew their dogs’ licenses during June, in accordance with Connecticut law, town officials said.

State law requires all dogs older than 6 months to be licensed annually.

While licenses may be obtained throughout the year, renewals for existing licenses take place during June.

A current rabies vaccination certificate is required to obtain or renew a license.

Dog owners seeking a reduced licensing fee must also provide proof that their pet has been spayed or neutered.

The Farmington Town Clerk’s Office said renewal notices will be mailed in early June to owners whose dogs were licensed in Farmington last year.

The notices will include the rabies certificate expiration date on file and the dog’s spay or neuter status.

If a rabies certificate has expired, an updated certificate must be submitted before a new license can be issued.

Renewals may be completed by mail or in person at the Town Clerk’s Office.

Residents renewing by mail must include a self-addressed stamped envelope, any required documentation, and payment by personal check, bank check, or money order payable to the Town of Farmington.

Top Dog

The town will also hold its annual Top Dog Drawing on June 19 at 10 a.m.

One dog will receive Farmington’s No. 1 Dog Tag and free registration for the 2026-27 licensing year.

Dogs currently licensed in Farmington, as well as dogs younger than 6 months, are eligible to enter.

To participate, owners must submit a 4-by-6-inch photo of their dog to the Town Clerk’s Office by June 8.

The dog’s name and the owner’s contact information should be included on the back of the photo.
