FARMINGTON, CT — The Farmington Land Trust has been awarded an $11,275 grant from The Walker Community Fund through Greater Hartford Gives Foundation to support its conservation and stewardship work in the community.

The grant follows a partnership announced earlier this year in which The Walker Group, a Farmington-based IT services and digital marketing firm, adopted the Land Trust's 24-acre West District Nature Preserve.

As part of the partnership, Walker Group employees volunteered at the preserve, helping clear trails, tend gardens and complete other stewardship projects.

"Farmington is fortunate to be home to The Walker Group, a company with deep roots in and an unwavering commitment to the community—and where giving back is built into its ownership structure," said Timothy C. Smith, president of the Farmington Land Trust. "This generous grant will support the fulfillment of FLT's mission to conserve, care for and connect people with open space in Farmington."

The Walker Group said the grant is part of its annual employee-directed giving initiative. Each year, employees nominate and vote on nonprofit organizations to receive funding.

The company is owned by a so-called "Perpetual Purpose Trust," a social enterprise model in which profits are reinvested in employees and the community as part of its long-term mission.

This year's grantmaking focused on organizations working in the areas of environmental conservation, basic human needs and social enterprise. According to the company, the Farmington Land Trust's work aligns with those priorities.

The Farmington Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving open space, caring for natural resources and connecting residents with preserved lands throughout Farmington.
