Farmington Summer Treasure Hunt Draws More Than 200 Families

FARMINGTON, CT — There's still time to participate in a popular summer 'treasure hunt' hosted by a prominent local nonprofit.

More than 200 families have participated in the Farmington Community Chest's Summer Treasure Hunt during its first three weeks, with three more locations remaining before the town-wide activity concludes Aug. 24.

The free program sends families searching for a treasure chest filled with prizes at a different Farmington location each week.

Participants who register through the program's website receive clues, with additional hints posted on the Farmington Community Chest's social media accounts.

During the first three weeks, participants visited the Farmington Land Trust, Westwoods Recreation Complex, and the Farm Truck at Hein Farm.

The locations of the remaining three treasure chests are being kept secret, with new clues scheduled to be released each week.

"We have been delighted, and honestly a little surprised, by how many families have gotten involved," Farmington Community Chest President Chris Andrews said. "It has been wonderful to see the photos and videos of children and their families solving clues, dressing up like pirates, and making the weekly treasure hunt an experience they look forward to together."

According to the organization, the average child participating in the treasure hunt is 6 years old, although parents, caregivers, siblings and friends have also joined the searches.

The Farmington Community Chest created the program to encourage families to spend time outdoors and explore local parks, businesses, nonprofits and other community spaces.

Families that find the weekly treasure chest can receive prizes, while participants can also earn entries into an end-of-summer grand prize drawing.

Participation is free and open to area families. Registration and additional information are available through the Farmington Community Chest's Summer Treasure Hunt website. Clues and updates are also posted on the organization's Instagram and Facebook accounts at @farmingtoncommunitychest.
