NEW BRITAIN/FARMINGTON, CT — An 84-year-old Farmington man died after his car veered off Interstate 84 and overturned near Exit 36 in New Britain Tuesday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police identified the driver as Abbott Schultz Jr., 84, of Farmington.
The crash occurred at about 1:36 p.m. Tuesday on I-84 West in the area of Exit 36, according to an accident information summary released Wednesday morning, Sept. 9, from Troop H in Hartford.
Police said Schultz was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Z-28 Camaro west when the car veered off the roadway and crashed through a support post for Exit 36.
The Camaro then came to an "uncontrolled rest" on its roof on the left side of the guardrail, according to state police.
Schultz suffered serious injuries and was taken to a New Britain hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or was traveling near I-84 Exit 36 at the time and has dashboard camera footage to contact Troop H in Hartford at 860-534-1000 or Trooper First Class Joshua Durant at Joshua.Durant@ct.gov.
