FARMINGTON, CT — The Farmington Town Council honored two local Eagle Scouts last month for service projects that improved a town nature trail and athletic facilities at a Bristol high school.
The council recognized Liam Morrell and Oliver Mangham, both of Farmington Boy Scout Troop 170, during its Sept. 8 meeting.
Councilman Bruce Polsky read a proclamation honoring Morrell, whose Eagle Scout project involved replacing a bog bridge at the Mountain Spring Nature Trail.
Morrell removed an existing 60-foot bridge and constructed a new structure extending an additional 30 feet on each side, resulting in a 125-foot bridge designed to make the trail easier to navigate.
The project required Morrell to plan and design the replacement, obtain permits, and oversee construction, according to the proclamation.
The council also recognized Morrell's other activities, including playing violin and piano, participating in football and lacrosse at Farmington High School, and volunteering as a youth basketball coach and at the Farmington Food Pantry.
The council proclaimed Sept. 10, 2026, as Liam Morrell Day in Farmington.
Councilman Keith Vibert read a separate proclamation honoring Mangham, whose Eagle Scout project focused on improving baseball and softball facilities at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol.
Mangham constructed bullpen and practice areas, installed new pitching mounds and pitching rubbers for home and visiting teams, graded areas of the fields, and made other improvements intended to create safer and more functional facilities for student-athletes.
The proclamation also highlighted Mangham's community service through town cleanup efforts, the Knights of Columbus Christmas Fair, the BARC Prom, church beautification and landscaping projects.
Mangham has also served as captain of the St. Paul Catholic High School swim team and was a two-time All-Conference selection and two-time Connecticut state finalist. According to the proclamation, he will continue swimming at the University of Saint Joseph.
The council proclaimed Sept. 9, 2026, as Oliver Mangham Day in Farmington.
State Rep. Michael Demicco, D-Farmington, also presented Connecticut General Assembly citations to both Eagle Scouts, recognizing their achievement.
Demicco congratulated Morrell and Mangham on their accomplishments.
