FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington residents looking to dispose of large household items can take advantage of the town's fall bulky waste collection program, scheduled for Oct. 19-23.
The collection is available to residents whose trash service is paid through the town's annual special service fee, according to the Farmington Department of Public Works.
Eligible residents should place bulky waste items at the curb the night before their regularly scheduled trash collection day. Items will be picked up on their normal trash collection day.
Town officials have outlined which items will be accepted and which materials are prohibited.
The following items are eligible for collection, subject to certain restrictions:
• Large furniture: Maximum of two pieces, including couches, upholstered chairs, recliners, mattresses, and box springs. A mattress and box spring together count as one piece. Mattresses and box springs must be kept dry for recycling purposes.
• Appliances: Maximum of two appliances. Doors must be removed before collection.
• Tires and rims: Maximum of two. Only car and bicycle tires are accepted, and tires must be removed from their rims.
• Plumbing fixtures: Maximum of two items, including sinks, bathtubs, and toilets.
• Carpeting and padding: Materials must be rolled and secured with tape or ties. Rolls cannot exceed 6 feet in length.
• Small furniture: Smaller pieces of household furniture are accepted.
