FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington's fall leaf collection was scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 2, the Town of Farmington announced.
The service is for residents on town-owned public roads only, excluding businesses and condominium associations.
Five crews will collect leaves simultaneously throughout town, with at least two collections on all public streets, weather permitting, according to the town's collection page.
Crews seen before Monday, Nov. 2, were testing leaf machines and were not conducting the first collection round.
Residents must rake leaves to the street edge, keeping them off road surfaces and sidewalks.
The town's notice warns that placing leaves on a roadway violates Connecticut General Statutes 19a-335, "Nuisance on Highway," and can be enforced by police.
Piles must contain leaves only, with no sticks, stones, grass clippings, ornamental grasses or brush. Those materials can damage equipment, and piles containing anything other than leaves will not be collected, according to the town.
To keep leaves from blowing into yards, the town suggests wetting them or covering them with a tarp.
The town cannot provide an exact pickup date or time for each home because of leaf volume, equipment, staffing, and weather. Trash collection crews will not pick up leaves, and residents must not place them in trash or recycling carts.
Residents should continue putting leaves at the curbside until the town posts notice that the final collection will begin.
The town's leaf collection page lists the pickup order for each crew and provides collection updates.
