Another Phone Scam Making Its Way Through Farmington: Police

FARMINGTON, CT — The Farmington Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam in which callers spoof the department’s non-emergency number to appear legitimate.

Police said scammers are making calls that display the department’s number and falsely claim to be officers.

The callers may attempt to collect personal or financial information, sometimes under the pretense of investigating identity theft or other fraudulent activity.

“Scams like this are constantly evolving,” the department said in a public notice, urging residents to remain cautious. “Never share sensitive information over the phone unless you are certain of who you are speaking with.”

Officials advised residents who are unsure about a caller’s identity to hang up and contact the department’s communications center directly.

Dispatchers can confirm whether a call is legitimate.

No arrests or suspects were announced. Police did not say how many residents may have been targeted.

Authorities are urging continued vigilance and recommend that residents verify suspicious calls by contacting the department directly rather than engaging with unsolicited callers.
