FARMINGTON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — One of the most eagerly anticipated additions to the Westfarms Mall in Farmington/West Hartford will open this year, though a firm date isn't set just yet.

Sally's Apizza will be located in Jordan's Furniture at the mall, located at 1500 New Britain Ave., West Hartford (with much of the mall in Farmington as well).

And it will open before the year is over, Sally's officials confirmed Monday. They didn't indicate, however, when that opening would occur.

The well-known pizzeria was founded in 1938 in New Haven and it was part of a national movement that helped coronate Connecticut as a major pizza hotspot.

Company officials said work is progressing on schedule and it is "tracking to open by the end of the year."

While the pizza will be the same as an old-time pizza shop, the atmosphere will be strictly state-of-the-art and modern.

For example, the site will feature an 80-foot video display screen in the dining room, making it possible to watch the game while devouring a slice.

In fact, Sally's officials are confident their new pizzeria won't just be a place to eat while shopping for furniture or at the mall. They think it will be a destination unto itself.

“We couldn’t be more excited about our partnership with Jordan’s Furniture and the opportunity to provide our customers with tremendous entertainment capabilities alongside our hand-crafted apizza, entrees, cocktails, and more,” said Christian Bonaventura, Sally’s brand advisor in a statement Monday.

“This groundbreaking entertainment and the dining venue is going to be a mind-blowing experience, really a travel-worthy destination for pizza lovers throughout the New England area.”

Cooked in the signature New Haven style, Sally's pies will feature the same ingredients since the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration was in office.

In addition to a wide variety of standard and upscale pizza pies of varying sizes, Sally's also will feature fine Italian dishes like chicken Scarpariello and spaghetti Carbonara.

Sally's is currently in the midst of a major expansion, with future sites planned for Newington, Norwalk, and South Windsor.

It currently operates locations in Fairfield, Stamford, New Haven, and Wethersfield, with one location in Woburn, Mass. It also has plans for three more Sally's in Massachusetts.
