FARMINGTON, CT — Police in Farmington are investigating the death of a 29-year-old man found in a wooded area behind a condominium complex as a homicide, authorities said Friday.

Farmington Police Department officers responded at about 10 a.m. Thursday, March 19, to Talcott Forest Road after receiving a report of an apparent untimely death under suspicious circumstances, according to police.

At the scene, officers discovered a man in a wooded area who appeared to have suffered multiple traumatic injuries.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Derick William Mercado-Labonte, 29, of Bridgeport.

Following an investigation and a formal determination by the medical examiner, authorities have officially classified the death as a homicide.

Police said the case remains under active investigation and declined to release additional details, citing its sensitive nature.

Officials added that the incident appears to be isolated.
