FARMINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • The first theatrical production of the fall 2018 semester at Eastern Connecticut State University was "Cabaret," the Tony Award-winning musical set on the eve of Nazi-controlled Germany. Among the cast and crew members who brought "Cabaret" to life was Alison Fern of Farmington, who majors in Communication and Theatre and worked on the set construction crew. With six performances between Oct. 18 and 28, theatregoers were dazzled by a stage set in the seedy Kit Kat Klub in early-1930s Germany, a time rife with political tensions that ultimately brought Adolf Hitler to power.

University of the Sciences, Philadelphia PA

  • Joby Cherian of Farmington, a doctor of physical therapy student at University of the Sciences, received a white coat at Annual Physical Therapy White Coat Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. The White Coat Ceremony is an annual rite of passage for students entering the professional phase of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Cherian continues on the path to receiving a doctor of physical therapy degree in May 2021. Donning their white coats, the more than 70 student-physical therapists recited the Oath of a Physical Therapist, a gesture to reinforce their commitment to working with patients compassionately and to enhancing their health and well-being.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

  • The Western New England University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society welcomed close to 200 students at the University's annual induction ceremony, which took place Oct. 19 in Rivers Memorial Hall. Local honorees were Kamden Benjamin of Unionville, majoring in Pre-Pharmacy, and Haley Brooks of Farmington, majoring in Social Work.
