Celebrate George Washington's Birthday!

The Sarah Whitman Hooker Homestead invites you to a special 18th century Tea to celebrate George Washington’s 284rd birthday. This annual tea helps to support the Sarah Whitman Hooker Homestead and will be held at the Homestead on Saturday, February 13 from noon to 3:00 p.m.

The event will begin with a guest speaker – journalist and historian Erik Hesselberg, President of the Middlesex County Historical Society, who will discuss “Commerce and Conflict on the Connecticut River” in early colonial days. Tea will be served afterward in the early 1800s style with chicken, ham, and lobster or crab sandwiches and clove (George’s favorite), chocolate, and ginger walnut cakes, all accompanied by Meredith Blend Tea, a late 18th century blend.

Admission is $15.00 per adult and $7.50 per child under 13 and includes a tour of the House.In addition, Anne Farrow will be speaking to our guests on “Slavery in the North” at 1:30 p.m.Anne is the lead author of the book “Complicity: How the North Promoted, Prolonged, and Profited from Slavery” and, more recently, the author of “The Logbooks: Connecticut’s Slave Ships and Human Memory”.Please call 860-523-5887 to make a reservation.

The Homestead is located at 1237 New Britain Avenue (at the corner of New Britain Avenue and South Main Street) in West Hartford. Parking is located behind the house.
