On Wednesday, February 1, Porter's hosted a panel of female athletes for National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Held annually, National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebrates the extraordinary achievements of women and girls in sports. Panelists included: Julie Foudy, retired professional soccer player; Gevvie Stone, silver medalist in rowing at the Rio Olympics; Pam Neff, ESPN's director of creative works in sales and marketing; and Michelle Lee '08, a dancer.
Ms. Foudy kicked off the assembly by speaking about leadership and not being afraid to step out of your comfort zone and take risks. During her career, she played in four Women's World Cups (winning two FIFA Women's World Cups in 1991 and 1999) and won an Olympic gold medal in 1996, silver in 2000, and gold again in 2004. In 2007 she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
After Ms. Foudy's presentation, the panel discussed their athletic experiences and how they overcame failures, such as injury and loss, throughout their careers.
"This year's National Girls and Women in Sports Day assembly was incredible," shares Dean of Athletics Jez McIntosh. "It was great for our athletes to hear from so many amazing women about their different journeys through sports."
