Choir Students at FHS Work With Award-Winning Vocalist

Sarah Kohl, Soprano and Voice Teacher presented a Vocal Master Class at Farmington High School. Ms. Kohl teaches at Loomis Chaffee High School and has a busy voice studio in Tariffville Mill in Simsbury. She regularly prepares her vocal students for auditions and performances. Students benefit from her master classes in throughout New England.

Over 120 vocalists in the Farmington High School choirs worked with Sarah master class style. Students performed solos while she worked with individuals in front of the entire class. Everyone learned new vocal techniques from this expert in the field. The Friends of Music paid for this arts program.

Sarah Kohl grew up in West Simsbury, and began her musical studies as a violinist. She attended Boston University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in violin performance in 2001. She returned to Boston University to study vocal performance in 2002 (MM 2004). While attending BU, Ms. Kohl performed the role of Norina with the Boston University Opera Institute. Her other solo appearances in Boston include Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the Boston Orpheus Ensemble, Messiah Part 1 with The Boston University Symphony Orchestra and Mozart’s Requiem with the Newburyport Choral Society. In 2005, she appeared as Coryphée in Opera Boston’s production of Alceste.

Ms. Kohl was a New England Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She was awarded First Prize and the Roger Wertenberger Audience Choice Award in The Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition.
