Clapping In - Farewell, Rising Fifth Graders!

"Clapping In" is how Union School begins and ends each school year.  Family and friends line up along the long walk that stretches from the School Street sidewalk to Union School's front door and clap and cheer as students walk in class by class.  Photos and videos are taken and the Union School song is played.  It's an exciting way for the children to enter school.  It can be emotional for families to watch- whether your kindergartener is going to (any) school for the first time or your fourth grader is going to Union School for the last time.  It's special and fun and we had another wonderful clapping in one month ago.

Principal Lynn Katz posted about Clapping In on her blog, The Principal's Journal:

"On the last day of school, June 26, 2013, the class of 2013 shared special memories of Union School during an emotional and joyful promotion ceremony.  From stories about persistence, to the power of friendship, and even stories about facing fears, each student shared one poignant memory and many life lessons learned.  Many students shared their personal experiences with goal setting and their feelings of accomplishment when they finally realized their goals. Some students made us laugh and some moved us to tears; each and every fourth grader made us very proud.  Thank you to the many parents who contributed to our end of year festivities.  And a special thank you to the students who are leaving us for West Woods Upper Elementary School.  Thank you for the beautiful benches that will be installed in the front of the building. And thank you for being such a delightful group of students.  We will remember you!"
