Columbus Day Impacts Announced In Farmington

The holiday is on Monday, Oct. 9.

FARMINGTON, CT — The upcoming Columbus Day holiday will have some impacts on town and school operations.

Town officials this week saidall Farmington town offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 9, in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day and Columbus Day.

Regular hours of operation will resume Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 8:30 a.m.

Farmington schoolchildren will have a four-day weekend, with pupils having the day off Monday, Oct. 9, for the holiday and Tuesday, Oct. 10, for a professional development day for teachers and staff.

Local officials said the holiday, though, will not impact trash and recycling pickup operations.

For Farmington residents who have trash and recycling collection by the town's contractor (Waste Material Trucking Co.), there will be no change in the collection day during the week of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day (Oct. 9-13).

Carts must be placed at the curb the night before the normal collection day.
