Firm Hired For Major Farmington Road Rehab
The Farmington Town Council last week awarded the contract to the second-lowest for four bidders.

FARMINGTON, CT— Work to continue reconstructing Brickyard Road in Farmington should commence soon following the Farmington Town Council's awarding of a bid last week to a contractor to do the work.
The council earlier this month unanimously approved to award the bid for the project's second phase to Waters Construction Co. out of Bridgeport for $711,473.
That approval, according to Farmington Town Council Sept. 13 meeting minutes, is subject to state Department of Transportation, Capital Region Council of Governments and state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities review and approval.

Kathleen Blonski, Farmington's town manager, said this project is 100 percent funded by grant funds.
She thanked Russ Arnold, the town's director of public works and town engineer, for applying and getting the grant funds.

This phase of the project, according to the town, is expected to include milling, pavement overlay and certain drainage replacements from Wildwood Road to the Avon border.
Waters was the second lowest bidder for the project, according to the town, with the lowest bidder — a paving and landscaping firm out of Oakdale (Montville) — seeking to do the work for $633,878.
Town officials, however, opted for the second-lowest bidder, Waters, deeming it the "lowest responsible bidder," citing that firm's experience.
The two bids that came in higher than Waters were for $803,817 and $893,915, respectively.
