State Rep. Mike Demicco is running for re-election.

FARMINGTON, CT — State Rep. Mike Demicco is running for re-election.
Here's his official announcement:
State Representative Mike Demicco (D-21st District) recently announced his candidacy for a sixth term in the Connecticut House of Representatives.
“It's been an honor and a privilege to serve Farmington and Unionville in the General Assembly, and I look forward to continuing that service, especially in these demanding times,” Demicco said. “As we transition out of the pandemic to a more 'normal' way of life, I am committed to ensuring that our state government continues to be responsive to the needs of all our residents, schools, and businesses.”
Demicco and his wife Brenda are 30 year residents of Farmington, with two grown daughters. He is a former high school and middle school history teacher, and was a stay-at-home father when his children were young. He worked as a tutor in the Kindergarten Acceleration Program at East Farms School, served on the PTO Executive Board, and was also a school library volunteer.
Demicco was first elected to the legislature in 2012, after serving four terms on the Farmington Town Council. He is currently a Deputy Majority Leader in the House, and serves on the Public Health, Environment, and Energy & Technology Committees.
Demicco noted that his legislative record contains several significant achievements, including: – protecting municipal aid and education aid allocated by the state to Farmington
– balancing state budgets each year, including a record surplus in the “Rainy Day” fund
– preserving essential services, particularly for our most vulnerable residents
– expanding housing, employment, and accessibility for those with disabilities
– enhancing tax exemptions for seniors, and eliminating outdated taxes on businesses – eliminating age discrimination in hiring practices and achieving pay equity
– expanding opportunities for retirement security
– expanding telehealth services and Medicaid coverage
– expanding insurance coverage for women's health procedures
– strengthening protections against domestic violence and sexual assault
– enacting comprehensive gun safety legislation
– protecting the environment, while promoting renewable energy
– achieving protection from variable rate electricity contracts for residential customers – increasing access to behavioral health and addiction services
– increasing educational opportunities and workforce development
– raising the minimum wage and instituting paid family and medical leave
“Connecticut faces many challenges in the coming months and years,” Demicco said. “It will require experience and tenacity, along with the thoughtful and patient leadership that I have utilized in my work these last ten years at the Capitol. We must continue to deliver meaningful tax relief to our residents, expand access to mental health services for children and adults, train our workforce for highly-skilled jobs, reduce our carbon footprint, manage our solid waste, and address our transportation, energy, housing, and health insurance needs. Representing our town in the legislature is a huge responsibility, and I will continue to work in a bi-partisan fashion to address these challenges.”
