The Town of Farmington will acquire more than 10 acres of land thanks to a nearly $70,000 grant from the state.
The land is located in the northwest corner of Farmington and is next to the Farmington River. The land is dubbed Lot 8 Collinsville Road and abuts Lot 7 Colinsville Road, which is a nearly 30-acre property that was acquired using the same state grant last year.
The grant comes through the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition program administered by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The state’s goal is to protect 673,210 acres of land by 2023 and is currently at more than 73 percent of its goal.

“Conserving land is an important investment in our future, and today’s grants move us closer to meeting our goal of protecting 21 percent of Connecticut’s land as permanently protected open space,” Governor Malloy said in a release. “Preservation projects such as these are fundamental to maintaining our high-quality of life, protecting the immense natural beauty of our state, and making Connecticut a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
