Farmington Booters, Netters Advance to Semifinals

FARMINGTON, CT — Farmington High School is buzzing with the possibility of berths in not one, but two state championship games.

Both the boys soccer and girls volleyball teams were victorious in quarterfinal matchups Saturday, earning trips to the Final Four.

A goal by Nate Hughes enabled the soccer team to hold off Staples 1-0, winning a Class LL semifinal date with 16th-seeded Fairfield Prep at a site, day and time to be announced. At number four, the Indians are the highest remaining seed in the bracket.

Girls volleyball, ranked first in the state, rolled past No. 8 Bristol Eastern by a 3-0 count in Class L. Game scores were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-10. Farmington will tangle with fifth-seeded Pomperaug Wednesday, with location and time to be determined.
