The Farmington Community Band was founded in 1966 by Farmington educators Paul and Fern Barber who proposed the idea of a local concert band that would provide an opportunity for adults to continue their music education beyond school while entertaining audiences in the Farmington community. Based at Harrison High School in Farmington Hills, the Farmington Community Band music organization is comprised of over 100 people participating in a variety of instrumental groups including an 80-piece concert band, Dixieland Band, various wind ensembles and the fabulous 20-piece FCB Big Band! representing the jazzy side of the FCB. Band members come from all ages and backgrounds and simply enjoy performing music for the community.

In that spirit there is no admission fee for any concert sponsored by the FCB. The FCB Concert Band is offered as a class in the music curriculum at Oakland Community College - Orchard Ridge campus. Concert band rehearsals are held Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm in the Harrison High School band room. Membership is open to all adults and qualified high school students may audition.
