FCS to launch Little Shoppers Program for families in need

Everyone has that gift they won’t ever use: a scarf they’ll never wear with tags on it, enough candles to burn every day for years, picture frames that just don’t go with the décor. All these items merely taking up space in a closet or drawer can be used to pay it forward next holiday season with Farmington Community Services’s new Little Shoppers Program.
FCS is launching a program that will allow children in families with limited resources to experience the joy of giving. This event will add to Farmington’s annual holiday programs that currently provide over 220 families in need with holiday meals and children’s gifts through local sponsorships and donations.
Community Services is currently collecting donations of unwanted and unused items. The items will be displayed at a Little Shoppers event in December giving eligible children the opportunity to “shop” for their parents, grandparents or caregivers.
Suggested items include books, candles, ornaments, household décor, kitchenware, games, jewelry, cologne/perfume, lotions, sports items, gloves/scarves, wrapping paper, gift bags, etc. As of now, the program will not be accepting clothing items.
Donations can be dropped off at the Staples House at 2 Monteith Drive in Farmington, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.
