Farmington Democrats Back Experienced State Rep. Mike Demicco

State Representative Mike Demicco (D-21st District) was unanimously endorsed to run for a fifth term at a recent meeting of the Farmington Democratic Town Committee. “It's been an honor and a privilege to serve Farmington and Unionville in the General Assembly, and I look forward to continuing that service, especially in these demanding times,” Demicco said. “Representing our town in the legislature is a huge responsibility, and I'm proud to have worked in a bi-partisan fashion to help solve some of Connecticut's most pressing problems.”

Demicco was first elected to the legislature in 2012, after serving four terms on the Farmington Town Council. He currently co-Chairs the Environment Committee, while also serving on the Public Health and Energy & Technology Committees.

Demicco noted that his legislative record contains several significant achievements, including:

• protecting municipal aid and education aid allocated by the state to Farmington

• balancing state budgets year after year, including a record surplus in the “Rainy Day” fund for the current fiscal year

• preserving essential services, particularly for our most vulnerable residents

• protecting the environment, while promoting renewable energy

• achieving protection from variable rate electricity contracts for residential customers

• increasing access to behavioral health and addiction services

• enhancing tax exemptions for seniors, and eliminating outdated taxes on businesses

• increasing educational opportunities and workforce development

• expanding insurance coverage for women

“Connecticut faces many challenges in the coming months and years, as we struggle with the complications caused by COVID-19,” Demicco said. “It will require thoughtful, patient leadership to ensure that our health care workers, first responders, businesses, and educators receive the resources necessary to manage this pandemic. At the same time, we must continue working to achieve social justice and the equal protection of every person's rights, as well as safe and accessible voting opportunities for all. I look forward to keeping our residents informed, connected, and protected.”
