Farmington Firefighters Scramble To Address Gas Leak At Westfarms Mall: FD

They rushed to the mall Thursday morning after reports of a gas odor at the prominent shopping destination.

FARMINGTON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — A potentially explosive gas leak this morning at the Westfarms Mall in Farmington/West Hartford prompted immediate action by local firefighters.

According to the East Farmington Volunteer Fire Department and Farmington Fire Department, firefighters responded at about 7:54 a.m. to an odor of gas at the WestFarms Mall on Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival, Engine 10 personnel located a broken natural gas line, the EFVFD reported.

This line was connected to a meter that supplied one of the mall's occupancies, fire officials said, and the situation prompted the fire departments to take action to secure the area.

Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) was requested to the scene to assist.

Fire department personnel ensured the natural gas line was shut off and then left the scene once CNG representatives had taken over management of the incident, the EFVFD said.
