Farmington Food Pantry, Mail Carriers Team Up For Saturday Food Drive

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Food Pantry is urging residents to participate in the annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive on Saturday, May 9, as organizers prepare for increased demand in the summer months.

Local letter carriers will collect nonperishable food donations directly from residents’ mailboxes on Saturday morning.

Organizers said no official yellow bag is required, though some households may receive new bags in advance of the drive.

The pantry identified its most-needed items as canned fruit, tuna, chicken, and other proteins; prepared meals such as chili, stews, and pasta products; coffee and tea; beans; and shelf-stable breakfast foods, including cereal and oatmeal.

“Every donation helps ensure our neighbors have access to food this summer,” the pantry said in its announcement.

The drive is part of a nationwide effort coordinated through postal workers each spring.

In Farmington, organizers say the collection is critical to building inventory ahead of a period when donations often decline, but the need remains steady.

Residents can participate by placing bagged, nonperishable items by their mailbox before regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 9.

Donations will be picked up as carriers complete their routes.

Organizers emphasized that community participation will directly support local households facing food insecurity, adding that the goal is to “make a real difference and stamp out hunger in Farmington.”
