Farmington Had 344 Reports of Shoplifting Representing a $179k Loss in 2013

Other highlights from the report include a very high robbery clearance rate of more than 80 percent and 114 DUI arrests.

Farmington Police received 344 reports of shoplifting during 2013, according to information released as part of the annual Connecticut Crime Report.

The reported loss from shoplifting was more than $179,000 and the average loss per reported incident was $520. In total there was a reported $1.32 million loss from stolen property in the town throughout the year; more than $1 million came from reported larcenies.

Municipalities like Farmington that have a large mall likewise had a greater amount of shoplifting reports. Trumbull had 260 reports of shoplifting that represented a loss of more than $106,000. Milford had 434 reports of shoplifting and the total loss was about $100,000.

Farmington had 11 reported robberies during the year and police made arrests on nine of them, which represents an 81.8 percent clearance rate.

Farmington Police made a total of 823 arrests; about half were for larceny and 114 were for driving while under the influence.
