Farmington High Gets Help From Simsbury Defense Contractor

SIMSBURY/FARMINGTON, CT — A high-tech, Simsbury-based defense/aerospace manufacturer recently made a nice donation to Farmington High School, with FHS alumni workers taking part in what is hoped to grow the high school's ability to teach students to work in the industry.

Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense (EBAD), and its parent company, Ensign-Bickford Industries, donated $2,000 from the EBI Foundation to Farmington High School's Capstone Program.

EBAD's facility is located on 640 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.

The check was presented on Nov. 28 by four FHS graduates working at EBAD: Ryan Rigney, Kris Picard, Meghan Rigney, and Matthew Crossman.

FHS' Capstone Program is an offshoot of its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education programs.

According to a release from EBAD, it "immerses students in a demanding, research-based learning experience, encouraging exploration of personal passions and potential career paths."

EBAD officials said the EBI Foundation's $2,000 donation will impact the program by providing funding for essential materials needed for the STEM Capstone Program.

"It is rewarding to be able to give back to this amazing program which started my engineering journey, by providing students with the same resources I was fortunate enough to have, enabling our Capstone prototypes to take form," said Rigney, program lead at EBAD. "I look forward to continuing to follow along, as students develop their engineering skills while solving real-world problems."
