Farmington High School arts students receive CAS awards
Connecticut Association of Schools ARTS Scholars celebrated at the Aqua Turf.
Farmington High School students, Katie Byrne and Cara Galske are the 2016 recipients of the CAS Arts Scholar Award. These FHS seniors were selected by the faculty for their scholarship and leadership in the arts. Each year an awards ceremony sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Schools occurs at the Aqua Turf.
Katie Byrne has received many music awards during her high school career. She has been selected for the CT Northern Regional Music Festival as a vocalist and string player multiple years as well as the Connecticut All-State Choir. Last year, she was selected as an All-National vocalist and performed in Nashville, Tennessee with the All-National Honors Choir. In her junior year, Katie completed the Performer to Podium Capstone and studied the differences is teaching in a music studio versus in the music classroom.
Cara Galske has participated in a wide variety of art classes that our High School offers, such as Photography, Drawing and Painting, Ceramics and AP Art Portfolio. Last year year she received a Gold Key Award at CT Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in Photography. She also helped out with Project Haiti by taking initiative to create bags in class and on her own time at home, that were sent to Haiti with the supplies. Cara is Fashion Club president this school year and she helped organize our first FHS Fashion Show.
