Farmington High School Makes Most Challenging High Schools List
In addition to the U.S. News & Word Report's best schools in Connecticut list, Farmington also made the Washington Post list.
The Washington Post recently released its most challenging high schools list, and Farmington High School was on it.
The top school in the state was the Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy - also the top school on the U.S. News & World Report’s list.
Farmington High School was No. 6 in the state and No. 848 in the nation on the Washington Post list. The school had a 2.636 index, which is calculated by taking the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year and dividing by the number of seniors who graduated in May or June.

A school that achieved a ratio of at least 1.00 meant that they had as many tests in 2014 as they had graduates. These schools were put on the national list and the schools were ranked based on this ratio. This year, the highest ratio - 20.44 - was achieved by BASIS Oro Valley, in Oro Valley, Arizona. The American Indian Public Charter in Oakland, California had held the top spot for two years.
The report also notes that Farmington High School has a four-year graduation rate of 96 percent and an average SAT score of 1,670. It states that 81 percent of students attend a four-year college.
