Farmington Historical Society Names First Executive Director
Earlier this month, the local organization appointed a longtime resident as its first executive director amid organizational growth.
FARMINGTON, CT — The Farmington Historical Society has appointed longtime Farmington resident Bruce Charette as its first executive director, a move leaders say will help guide the organization through a period of growth and expanded community engagement.
Charette officially assumed the role on June 15 following a search conducted by the society’s board search committee.
The society's board of directors unanimously approved his appointment during a special meeting on June 8, and Farmington Historical Society President Jay Bombara announced the hiring at the organization’s June 10 membership meeting.

A resident of Farmington Village, Charette brings a longstanding interest in local history and experience in strategic planning, organizational development and community engagement.
He has also served in multiple leadership roles within the Town of Farmington, working with residents, volunteers and local organizations on community initiatives and historic preservation efforts.

As executive director, Charette will oversee the stewardship of the society’s historic properties and collections while leading efforts in educational programming, community outreach, fundraising and organizational development.
He will work closely with the board, volunteers, members, donors and community partners to advance the organization's mission.
“Local history helps us understand who we are as a community and how we arrived here,” Charette said. “By preserving Farmington’s stories, places, and traditions, we ensure that future generations can learn from and be inspired by the people and events that shaped our town.”
His appointment comes as the Farmington Historical Society enters a new phase marked by the acquisition of a historic headquarters and continued organizational growth.
Society leaders said those developments position the organization to broaden its impact and expand its services to the community in the years ahead.
