Collecting Fallen Leaves In Farmington: What You Need To Know

Town officials have released information about how the 2023 autumn leaf collection will work.

FARMINGTON, CT— As the colors are at peak and the autumn leaves are falling, Farmington officials have announced their policy and procedures for the 2023 fall leaf collection season.

According to the town, collection will begin in Farmington on Monday, Oct. 30.

In total, local officials said, there will be five separate crews working with specially designed trucks to suck up the leaves, which must be left by the side of the road and NOT be on sidewalks or on the roadway.

In the following days and weeks, each roadway will have two passes by leaf-sucking vehicles, according to an announcement earlier this month.

Residents utilizing the leaf collection service should only put leaves by the side of the road — no sticks, stones, grass clippings, brush or ornamental grasses.

Those, officials said, can damage the leaf-collection equipment.

Because of a variety of factors, Farmington officials cannot say when a certain street will be serviced, but they recommend folks check the Town of Farmington website for notices when the final collection swings will begin.

Those concerned about whether leaves will blow into the road, their yard or in neighbors' yards can wet down the leaf piles, making them less susceptible to wind issues

They can also cover the leaves up with tarps to ensure the piles stay intact while waiting for the trucks to arrive.
