You bring the book you're reading and, if you choose, you can discuss it with others.
"Settle in for an hour of silent, sustained reading. At the end of the hour, attendees can socialize—or not," wrote the Farmington Library System in an announcement.
The concept of a "silent" book club dates back to San Francisco in 2012, according to the "Silent Book Club LLC," an organization of such clubs nationally.
The organization best describes what a silent book club is via its website.
"Often with traditional book clubs, there's the scramble to finish the selected book, and the pressure to have something smart to say. Wouldn't it be great to have a book club where you could just enjoy books, friends, and drinks—without any homework?"
