Farmington Man Drowns At Rhode Island Beach: Reports

According to Rhode Island officials, the man was pulled unresponsive from the water by lifeguards.

FARMINGTON, CT/WESTERLY, R.I. — A Farmington man has been identified over the weekend as the drowning victims in an incident Friday afternoon at Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly, R.I.

According to WVIT Channel 30 and WJAR Channel 10 in Providence, R.I., the victim is Frank Sievel, 74, of Farmington.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management confirmed that the incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. on Friday.

That's when, Rhode Island DEM officials said, lifeguards at the beach in Westerly, R.I., pulled an unresponsive male from the water.

According to the DEM, lifeguards tried to resuscitate the man using both CPR and an automated external defibrillator until responders arrived.

The DEM said responders from Westerly, R.I., Emergency Medical Services and the DEM's Division of Law Enforcement arrived at the scene at 12:45 p.m.

Sievel was transported to Westerly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Rhode Island state officials.
