Farmington Obituary: Carolyn Arnold, 72

Condolences to her family and friends.

Carolyn W. Arnold, 72, formerly of Farmington and Simsbury, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born May 23, 1944 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph A. and Elizabeth (Meier) Wiesner. She was a graduate of Chapel Hill School in Waltham, MA, Becker Junior College and received her BS degree from the University of Connecticut where she majored in Economics. Prior to retiring, Carolyn was a loan officer at Fleet Bank and worked at CIGNA for many years.

She was a competitive runner, loved animals (especially her beloved cats), enjoyed gardening and yard work, making crafts, collecting antiques and shopping. She liked to watch sports, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the UConn Women’s basketball team.

She was a long-time season ticket holder at the Hartford Stage which she attended, along with other social and travel activities, with her group of special Simsbury friends. She was a beloved mother, with a great sense of humor and amazing amounts of patience, who never lost her core loving and trusting nature even through the progression of her disease.

Carolyn is survived by her two adoring daughters, Pamela Mastrogiovanni of Farmington and Diana Hancin and her husband Dennis of Marlborough, her brother, Paul Wiesner and his wife Karen of Madison and four granddaughters, Lillian and Anna Mastrogiovanni and Julia and Katherine Hancin.

The family would like to thank the staff at Arden House in Hamden and Carolyn’s niece, Heidi Nolan, for their wonderful and compassionate care.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday (May 13) at 11:00am in the Meetinghouse at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 75 Main St., Farmington. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CT, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489 or to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
