Farmington Obituary: Craig McGowan, 63

Craig T. McGowan, 63, of Unionville, died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, surrounded by his loving family.

Craig was born September 19, 1952 at New Britain General Hospital and lived in Lake Garda, Unionville until his death. He worked for 28 years as a custodian at Union, Noah Wallace, West District and East Farms Elementary, Irving A. Robbins Middle School, and Farmington High School.

Craig was a unique and free-spirited man, a self-taught musician playing both the guitar and piano. He was also a gifted artist; painting and drawing pictures and giving them as gifts. He was interested in history, especially the civil war, and could recite numerous accounts of the many battles that took place during our American history. He loved his many motorcycles from BSA to Harley Davidson, and enjoyed tinkering with control cars and airplanes.

Craig was fluent in German and Klingon. He was a generous and humorous man who had a knack for satire. His witty sense of humor and bright blue eyes will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his beloved dog Amy, sisters Kayleen Bastiaanse, Torrington, Dawn M. McGowan (Mary A. Grimes), Newington, and Heather Moore (Chuck) Spring Hope, NC. Nephews and nieces; Mark Bastiaanse, Nicole Bastiaanse-Fritch (Michael C.), Natalie Ouellette (Glen), Paul Bastiaanse, Brian Fabrizio (Tabitha), Scott Fabrizio (Megan), Ashley Fabrizio, and Nicholas Fabrizio. Great-nieces and nephews; Vanderee and Avalee Fritch, Robert and Katalina Ouellette, Aria Fabrizio, Rachel and Juliet Fabrizio, Samantha and Wyatt Evans, and many cherished family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Walter S. McGowan and Dawn C. McGowan, brothers-in-law Robert Bastiaanse and John Fabrizio.

Graveside service will be Friday, July 22, 10am at St. Mary Cemetery, 644 Huckleberry Hill Road, Avon.
