Farmington Obituary: Donald Maurer, 89

Condolences to his family and friends.

Donald H. Maurer, 89, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, beloved husband of Noreen (Case) Maurer, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, October 8, 2016. Don and Noreen celebrated 67 years together on October 1, 2016.

Born in Springfield, MA, son of the late Leroy and Mildred (Griswold) Maurer, he lived in Windsor for over 45 years moving to Florida 6 years ago. Donald served as machinist mate in the US Navy during W.W. II. He was a design engineer with the Edmunds Manufacturing Co of Farmington for many years before retiring.

A most wonderful man who made a friend wherever he went; he loved a good joke, and was well respected and admired at work. Donald's Catholic faith was very important to him along with devotion to his family. He enjoyed golf at the Farmington and Suffield Country Clubs, and loved an opportunity to go fishing and boating.

Besides his wife Noreen, he leaves his children Cheryl M. Falletti (Donald) of Windsor, Michelle Childs (John) Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Donald G. Maurer (Theresa) of Simpsonville, SC; two brothers Richard Maurer in SC and Bruce in FL; two sisters Joan and Ann O'Connor both in FL; 8 grandchildren ; and 16 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Leroy, Jr. And two sisters Margie Maurer and Ruth Swager.

His family will receive friends Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 8:30 am-9:15 am at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 am at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad Street, Windsor. Burial will follow with military honors in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
