Farmington Obituary: Dr. Donald Swanson, 84

Condolences to his family and friends.

Dr. Donald M. Swanson, 84, of Farmington, formerly of Southington, passed away peacefully Monday February 12, 2018, predeceased only days by his beloved wife Sondra of sixty years.

Born May 31, 1933, in East Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Rudolph V. and Dorothy (Trehy) Swanson, attended New Britain High School and Boston University and received his D.P.M. from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. After graduating he served in the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer holding the rank of Second Lieutenant stationed at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, CA.

Upon discharge, Dr. Swanson returned to Connecticut where he practiced podiatry in Plainville for 40 years. He also served on the Plainville Housing Authority and was an active member of the Plainville Lions Club for many years. He also enjoyed golf and boating, and was a member of Chippanee Golf Club and a past commander of the New Britain Power Squadron.

He is survived by his two children, Donald M. Swanson Jr., and his wife Sharon of North Easton, MA and Kristen Kenney and her husband William of Southington, three grandchildren, Erika Swanson of Providence, RI, Kevin Swanson of New York, NY, and Jane Kenney of Southington and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dr. Swanson was predeceased by his sister Cynthia Budwitz.

Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Saturday (Feb. 17) from 2:00-4:00pm with Prayer Service in the funeral home at 3:30pm.
